September 15, 2020Your Mental Health Matters!

As we push further into 2020, it is understandable that most of us are going through a wave of emotions that might be simultaneously affecting our mental health. The situation we find ourselves in is hard to comprehend, especially as businesses and schools start to reopen even though numbers are still rising around the country. Many platforms discuss the importance of exercise and your physical health during this time but remember that your mental health is just as important! Here are two easy friendly reminders to keep in mind.
You. Are. Not. Alone.
Whether you live alone, with roommates, or with your family, no two people reflect on their experiences in the same way. Although you may feel like you are the only one going through this period of uncertainty, stressing daily, you are a part of a greater community that understands your situation. If you are unable to cope with stressors in your newly structured lifestyle, please remember that it is okay to reach out or ask for help. It doesn’t have to be a professional, just someone you trust that you feel comfortable expressing yourself to. Sometimes all we need to do is let it out and know that someone else is listening to our needs and concerns. As social distancing begins to define how we go about our lives, it also takes a toll on our need for human interaction, thus depriving us of the connection. We are all in this together, and we need to help each other out to make sure we come out on the other end better than before.
Find Activities That Make You Happy
It is essential to stay positive during the pandemic and find any activity that helps us feel better. Events don’t need to be extravagant. Reading a book, doing an online exercise class, walking outside, or having a conversation with a loved one are meaningful ways to spend your time! Pursuing hobbies that put a smile on your face will not only make the harder days more tolerable but also keep you motivated to maintain the enthusiasm onto the next. It is our job to make the days count and not waste them. Remember that it is okay to take time for yourself and focus on what makes you feel good. Activities that promote positive thinking will also curb your stress and improve your overall health.
