Healthy Eating 101 classes are available to all DHAC members. No registration is required and there is no cost to attend. You will find the current class schedule posted around DHAC. Each week covers a new topic. Ask any DHAC staff member for more information.
Week 2: The ins and outs of label reading
Here is an overview of what will be covered in this class:
The nutrition facts label provides useful information about the content of packaged foods and beverages. The FDA has made some design changes and reconsidered what is listed on the label over the years. Learning to read these labels will help you make informed food choices. The class will review what is on the label (serving size, calories per serving, total fat, total carbohydrate, etc.) and how these contribute to healthy eating habits.
The group will define some of the common claims found on food packages. It will also practice how to use the facts listed on the label to meet personal nutrition goals.
