Oct 2019 topic: Nourishing Success: One Recipe at a Time
In October the group wanted to talk about making healthy changes to recipes. We started by talking about the challenges of changing recipes that are family favorites. The group shared some strategies they have used already and how they were received.
Handouts were reviewed that listed many healthy substitions, deletions or additions to keep recipes tasty and improve on their nutritional content. Examples of original recipes were examined and compared to those altered to decrease the salt or added sugar content, increase flavor with salt-free spice blends or decrease the amount of fat used.
At the end of the hour, everyone felt they could make small changes to most recipes and would be interested to see if anyone really missed the salt, sugar or calories!
