I know stretching is the last thing you want to do after a workout however is very important. It’s much easier to make an excuse to avoid stretching than it is to follow through with it, but trust me it is so worth it. There are so many benefits that come from stretching, I will just name a few.
1. Relieves stress
2. Improves digestion
3. Reduces anxiety
4. Soothes headaches
5. Improves muscle health
6. Decreases muscles soreness
7. Improves posture
Stretching keeps your muscles flexible, strong and healthy. The flexibility of the muscles helps to maintain or even improve the range of motion in your joints which then allows the body to work the correct way. Without stretching, the muscles begin to shorten and tighten which will cause them to be weak and unable to extend all the way during activity. Healthy muscles also help a person with balance problems to avoid falls.
Where to start?
Daily stretching is something I recommend for every person at every fitness level. Before you begin your stretching, always make sure you are warmed up. A light 5-10 minute warm up is all that is needed. It is also important to make sure that when you’re stretching to hold (for about 30 seconds) and to NOT bounce while you stretch. Lastly, only stretch to where you feel a stretch and not to pain.
